For years, I’ve been traveling throughout developing and developed countries—from barebones living to the most lush, extravagant surroundings you can imagine.
After seeing all of the ingredients in facial care products and the extreme prices, and after paying those prices when I was on a fat Gulf expat salary, I must admit that (regularly) smearing some fresh fruit on my face, lying back for twenty minutes with a soul-healing book or article and gently washing the dried goodness off is as effective as a several-hundred dollar facial or bottle of slickly-marketed, preservative-filled product.
Not only that, doing this offers us a chance to appreciate and ponder the amazing, living, ingredients that nature made in her fruits--acids, vitamins, enzymes that are naturally very good and nourishing for hungry, tired and neglected skin!
It’s really amazing to think about.
All of this started years ago, when I was in Kenya and my face was so upset due to the pollution in Nairobi. I searched online and discovered that tomato and papaya help the skin to shed and relax. So I blended the two together, put in ice-cube trays and melted a cube on my face every few days. I noticed a difference in my skin directly after and over time. Now I'm back in a simple state of living and find more information than ever available on DIY fruit facials.
In fact, this is great for the environment when you consider all the packaging that goes into these products!
Today, while eating breakfast, I took a piece of banana and ran it across my face. Then I took a piece of papaya and did the same. I then read an article, finished my breakfast, made the bed and rinsed it all off. Voila!
Here’s a fantastic article that gives you so many goodies on how to take those precious colorful gems sitting in your fridge and turn them into a wonderful little spa treatment after an arduous day … or just, whenever!
